Father Wishes

Surat ini dibuat ketika Jenderal Douglas MacArthur sedang memimpin pasukan Amerika Serikat di tengah Perang Dunia II yang berkecamuk di Pasifik, Jenderal Douglas MacArthur sempat menuliskan surat kepada putranya Arthur IV.

Bentuklah putraku Tuhan, menjadi seseorang yang cukup kuat untuk tahu kapan ia sedang lemah dan cukup berani mengahadapi dirinya sendiri ketika dia takut. Seseorang yang tetap bangga dan tegar ketika dikalahkan dalam perang, serta rendah hati ketika menang.

Bentuklah putraku menjadi manusia yang tidak hanya berharap, tapi juga berbuat. Seorang putra yang akan mengenal Engkau dan menyadari bahwa mengenal dirinya sendiri adalah dasar dari pengetahuan.

Tuntun dia pintaku, bukan dijalan kemudahan dan kenyamanan, tetapi dibawah tekanan kesulitan dan tantangan. Biarkan dia belajar belas kasih kepada mereka yang gagal.

Bentuklah putraku menjadi seseorang yang hatinya bersih, yang cita-citanya sangat tinggi, seorang putra yang akan menguasai dirinya sendiri sebelum ia berusaha untuk memimpin orang lain. Seseorang yang akan meraih masa depan, tetapi tak pernah melupakan masa lalu.

Dan setelah semua ini ada padanya, pintaku, berikan ia rasa humor sehingga tetap serius, tapi tidak pernah membawakan dirinya terlalu serius. Beri dia kerendahan hati sehingga ia selalu ingat kesederhanaan dari kemuliaan sejati. Pikiran terbuka terhadap kebijaksanaan sejati dan kelemahlembutan dari kekuatan sejati.

Lalu aku, ayahnya, akan berani berkata, “Hidupku tidak sia – sia!”

Bagaimana ? Apakah anda sudah menyiapkan pesan terdahsyat bagi penerus anda ??
